This black and white photo captures a serene winter scene featuring the historic Old Stone Dam. The dam, centrally positioned, is constructed from large, rough-hewn blocks, creating a series of steps and a small waterfall where the Cottonwood Creek flows through. The water in the creek occupies much of the central third of the image, appearing dark and reflective, with ripples visible downstream from the dam. To the left in the foreground, some dried, light-toned shrubs with long, thin stalks are visible. Behind the creek, several large, deciduous trees stand prominent, completely bare of leaves, their branches creating intricate, delicate patterns against the lighter sky. The banks of the creek beyond the dam show tiered, terraced stone work, and further back, more leafless trees extend across the landscape, suggesting a widespread wooded area. The overall tone of the image is stark yet peaceful, emphasizing the textures of the stone and the skeletal forms of the winter trees.
